What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to offer services and support to those with permanent and significant disabilities. Resources are allocated to enable assistance with fulfilling the needs of people with a disability and connecting them to appropriate services. The aim of the NDIS is to give person focused support and to improve the mechanisms, efficiency and accessibility to national services for those with life-altering disabilities.
How Do I Access The NDIS?
1. Check your eligibility:
Your eligibility for the NDIS is determined by several factors, including age, residential status and disability requirements. Your eligibility will be assessed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the government body responsible for administering the NDIS. To check your eligibility, click here.
2. Complete NDIS Access Request Form:
Complete an NDIS Access request form with the assistance of your GP and therapists. Submit your form to the NDIS processing.<
3. Meet with an NDIS Planner to develop your plan:
Firstly, you’ll have a meeting with the NDIS to develop your plan. The NDIS will look at what services you’re currently utilising and your individual requirements. Your plan will be based on your objectives, needs and goals, as well as the support and services that will best suit you moving forward.
4. Implement your plan and build support network:
Once an NDIS has been prepared and approved by an NDIS delegate it is then be implemented, usually with the help of a Support Coordinator. The Support Coordinator will help to engage you with service providers to build a support network.
